On June 6, 1775, British troops were stopped by New York militia, at the intersection of Broad St. and Beaver St., (less than one block from where the Wall Street Inn now sits), and forced to relinquish a cartload of guns. The British were granted safe passage out of the city, but were only allowed to retain their personal arms. The confiscated weapons were given to New York's first revolutionary army.
