UN Plaza

The UN Building construction finished in 1950 and has been the headquarters of the United Nations ever since. It overlooks the East River and is located at First Avenue and East 42nd Street.

John D. Rockefeller, Jr. purchased the eighteen acres of land for 8.5 million and donated it to city of New York. Made up of 4 main buildings, the 39-story Secretariat building has become one of New York’s landmarks. The east and west walls are lined with thermopane glass which helps to heat the interior of the building. The north and south walls are crafted from fine Vermont marble for pure beauty.

On the outside of the building you can take a stroll along the winding garden paths while also admiring the many famous sculptures that are placed throughout. You can see art from various nations including the Soviet Union, Japan and the US. There is even a piece of the Berlin Wall on site.
