The Guggenheim Museum

The Guggenheim is a modern art museum located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. From the street, the building looks like a coiled white ribbon growing larger as you move up. Many people believe that the building actually takes away from the art that is housed inside.

Frank Lloyd Wright designed the building for Solomon R. Guggenheim to house his four-year-old Museum of Non-Objective Painting. To the dismay of many New Yorkers and even Wright himself the building was completed in 1959 and neither Wright nor Guggenheim got to enjoy the fruits of their labor. They both died before the project was complete. Today The Guggenheim is one of the most popular spots in New York.
